On the Brink...

About

As a child I was always drawing or making.  After leaving school I studied 3 Dimensional Design at the Berkshire College of Art and Design (sadly no longer there!) before starting a career in interior design.

After holding several design appointments I set up and jointly ran a successful interior design company for the best part of 30 years and am still currently a director of a ground breaking low energy lighting company.

It was whilst I was based “on the brink” of the River Nene in a market town in the Cambridgeshire Fens that I originally turned back to my hobby of ceramics and art.

I am drawn to patterns in nature and contrast whether it be of shape, texture or colour and what I call "incidental art”. I cannot imagine a world where I would stop being creative as I find it completely absorbing, fascinating and, at times, frustrating but is always my ‘go to’ place and I believe that I can always do better which spurs me on to create more. One of my favourite quotes is by Mark Rothko…

“A painting is not a picture of an experience, but is the experience.”
